Elma Jean Renner was born on August 28, 1929 in Texola to John Elmer & Bessie Lillian Loftis Renner. She was the youngest of five children. Her four older brothers were Johnny Austin, Elmer DeWitt, Harold Wayne, and Billy R.

She married Gerald McKinley Davis in May 1950. Together they had 4 children. Gerald passed away in 1974.

Jean married Gilbert Cecil Hamilton in 1979.


Obituary: Jean R. Hamilton, 83, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dick Marcear, minister, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park, on the Fritch Highway. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jean was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Texola, Okla., to Elmer and Bessie Renner. She married G.M. “Cotton” Davis in May 1950. After moving to Borger, she and Cotton had four children, who loved her dearly. Cotton passed away in February 1974. Jean then moved to Amarillo in 1979 and married Gilbert Hamilton. Gilbert passed away in 1994. Jean worked and retired from the civil service after 30 years.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry Davis; and four brothers.

Survivors include two sons, David L. Davis and wife Mary of Lubbock and Gerald W. Davis and wife Glinda of Amarillo; a daughter, Becky Wheeler of Amarillo; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
