Cecilia Marie "Cece" Brungardt, 76, died Tuesday Nov. 22, 2011, at Newton Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Emmeram to Ambrose and Adelia (Dreiling) Brungardt.

She was a 1952 graduate of Victoria High School and 1955 graduate of St. Anthony's School of Nursing of Hays. In 1960, she received her nurse anesthetist degree from Wesley Hospital School of Anesthesiology, Wichita, and completed a course in acupressure and pain management as alternative to anesthesia in China. Additionally, she completed training at the Ethical Hypnosis Training Center, South Orange, N.J., in November 1975 as an alternative to anesthesia.

She became a partner in CMB Enterprises of Las Vegas. She and her partners provided anesthesiology services for all of the hospitals in the city of Las Vegas. Her company continues today under different ownership. She was an advocate of cutting-edge health care for women. She authored a book on natural childbirth and initiated training seminars in childbirth for medical professionals as well as patients.

Survivors include Sister Valeria Brungardt, Fond Du Lac, Wis.; Paul Brungardt and wife, Mickie, Victoria; Yvonne Rohleder Braun and husband, Ken, Hays; and Ruth Polifka and husband, Frank, Catharine; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, LuVerna Schulte and Patricia Schmidt, and a brother, Gilbert Brungardt.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays. Visitation will be from, 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center, or Humane Society of the High Plains in care of the funeral home. Condolences can be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com.
