Sister Valeria was born in Victoria, KS, on July 14, 1927, to Ambrose Brungardt and Adelia Dreiling. Valeria was the oldest of eight children. She had two brothers and five sisters.
Sister Valeria made her profession of vows in the Congregation of St. Agnes on August 15, 1949. Sister received certification in X-Ray Technology in 1960 and certification in Clinical Pastoral Education in 1974. Before her work in health care, Sister ministered at Holy Family Orphanage in Marquette, MI, as prefect of girls from ages, three to eight. She also worked as a laboratory aide at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, WI, and at St. Agnes Hospital in Fond du Lac. Sister served as an x-ray technologist in Fond du Lac, Monroe, and at St. Thomas Hospital in Colby, KS. She ministered in pastoral care at St. Agnes Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, Wichita KS, and St. Anthony Hospital, Hays, KS.
Sister Valeria was preceded in death by her parents Ambrose and Adelia Brungardt, her brother Gilbert, and her sisters LuVerna Schulte, Patricia Schmidt, and Cecilia Brungardt.
She is survived by her brother Paul, her sisters Yvonne Rohleder Braun and Ruth Polifka, and by the Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
Visitation for Sister Valeria will be on October 25 after 3:00 p.m., at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 Gillett St., Fond du Lac, WI, where a prayer service will also be held at 6:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on October 26 at 10:30 a.m., at St. Francis Home Chapel, 33 Everett St., with Father Ken Smits, OFM Cap., as presider. Burial will be at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery.
