~PNEUMONIA TAKES UTAHN IN FRANCE

MOUNT PLEASANT, December 20 - A telegram was received by Mrs. Jacob HAFEN, Sr. from the war department yesterday informing her of the death of her son, Jacob HAFEN, Jr., who died of pneumonia in Frances October 06. HAFEN was 32 years of age and received his training in Camp Lewis from April to July, 1918, going overseas in the latter month. He was fighting at the front at the time he was stricken with the disease.. HAFEN is survived by his mother, a wife and an 11-days-old baby, three brothers and seven sisters.

Jacob was born in Mount Pleasant, Utah on June 06, 1886 to Lizette and Jacob HAFEN.

He worked on the small family farm with his mother and siblings. Around 1913 he married Anna HAFEN and they had two children: Anna Graham HAFEN and Jacoba Elizabeth HAFEN.

On June 26, 1918, he was inducted into the Army and trained at Camp Lewis, Camp Kearney, and Camp Mills from June 26 to the beginning of August. He was then shipped off to France and arrived on August 24th. Jacob only served a few weeks before he died of lobar pneumonia on October 06, 1918.

He is buried in the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery.
