ACOB HAFEN DIES AT ADVANCED AGE
Was Early Settler in Mt. Pleasant and Active in Community Life and Interests.
Mt. Pleasant, March 25--In the death of Jacob Hafen Friday Mt. Pleasant lost one of its early settlers who had helped materially in the upbuilding of the community.
Mr. Hafen had just passed his eighty-first birthday. He was born in Switzerland, where he embraced the Mormon faith and emigrated to Utah in 1861. He crossed the plains with an ox team in Captain Jones's company and located in Payson, but after three years residence there moved to Richfield, where he took an active part in the Black Hawk war. Shortly afterward the family moved to Mt. Pleasant which has since been their home. In 1883-1885 he engaged in a mission in Switzerland.
He was the father of eighteen children, seven of them preceding him to the grave.
He is survived by his widows, Mrs. Katherine Hafen and Mrs. Rosetta Hafen, and the following sons and daughters; Mrs. Christian Rasmussen, Mrs. Hyrum Bramstead, Mrs. John H. Hansen, William, Emil, Jacob and Wilford Hafen, Mrs. J. Johansen, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Mrs. Franklin Hansen of Moroni.
Funeral services were held today from the North ward chapel. Bishop H.C. Jacobs presiding. Beautiful sacred music was furnished by the choir under the direction of Mrs. Arthur O. Neilsen.
