Lucy was the only child of Ebenezer Danforth Cumming and Elizabeth Gould More Cumming. She was raised at Walton where her father was a lawyer. The family relocated to Deposit after 1892 where her father established a law practice. Lucy was a typist when she married to Floyd Andrews Brown on 5 December 1907 at Deposit. They made their home first at Cleveland, Ohio where her husband was a varnish works chemist and then, in 1912, at Long Island City, New York where her husband was superintendent of a varnish factory. They made their home at Deposit in 1914 where they purchased a home on Third Street and her husband was associated with his father in the retail furniture and undertaking business. Lucy and Floyd were the parents of three children; Elizabeth Cumming Brown, Eleanor Andrews Brown, and David More Brown.
