Ebenezer was an allied member of John and Betty More's David line. He was the second of three children born to John Cumming and Sarah Kittle Cumming. Ebenezer was raised at Hamden, New York where his father was a farmer. His father died when he was 12-years of age and his mother died when he was 13-years of age. After their deaths, he relocated to Walton, New York about 1870 and was a laborer in the household of Isadore Dumond. In 1875, he resided at Sanford, New York in the household of his half-brother Alex Cumming, a lawyer at that place and where Ebenezer was a law student. He relocated to Benona, Michigan about 1880 but returned to New York soon after. Ebenezer married to Elizabeth Gould More on 13 October 1881 at Walton, New York where they made their home first. The young family relocated to Deposit, New York about 1900 where he was a lawyer and later a bank president. Ebenezer and Elizabeth were the parents of one child, Lucy Elizabeth Cumming.
