Mr. Hammer died January 16, 1980 at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife Lillian of Alexandria; one son, Dr. Robert of Minneapolis; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Joe, Leo, Louie and Tony, all of Alexandria; four sisters, Lillie (Mrs. Ed Kannas) of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Ann Hammer of Alexandria; Mrs. Helen Peterson of Alexandria; and Margaret (Mrs. Jessie Hedlund) of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond.
Funeral services were held January 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alexandria, Rev. Arthur Hoppe and Rev. Joe Korf officiating. Pallbearers were Paul Hammer, Bruce Hammer, Peter Hammer, Brian Hammer, Steven Hammer, Joe Hammer, Michael Hammer and John Hammer.
