Mollie Zenk, 94, of Alton, died Friday, January 24, at the Happy Siesta Retirement Home in Remsen after a long illness.
Services were held on Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mrs. Zenk was born August 3, 1897, at Le Mars, the daughter of Martin and Caroline (Harpenau) Koopman. She was raised and attended school in the Le Mars area. She lived in Remsen and Le Mars, then married Mike Zenk February 14, 1949, at Sioux City. They farmed near Alton until retiring into town in 1957. Mr. Zenk died May 29, 1971. Mrs. Zenk had lived at the Happy Siesta Retirement Home since November 3, 1982. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Church Guild and the Rosary Society.
Survivors include four stepsons, Alvin, Richard, Donald and Cyril; two stepdaughters, Mildred and Mary Ann; a stepdaughter-in-law, Catherine; 31 step-grandchildren; and 58 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two stepsons, Milo and Alfred; three brothers, Henry, Al, and Emil Koopman; Mrs. Henry (Frances) Bortschelleir and Mrs. Paul (Olive) Waldschmitt.
