Muncie - Muncie - Philip Alan (Phil) Boggs, 85, passed away Sunday morning, June 8, 2014 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital peacefully with family members by his side.

He was born near Farmland, IN on November 4, 1928, the son of Samuel Plummer and Hilda Irene (Garringer) Boggs.

Phil graduated in 1946 from Selma high school. He was an outstanding basketball player and while at Selma playing with his brother Bob won three straight Delaware County basketball championships.

Phil farmed in Niles Township, Delaware Co. for many years and also worked at Universal Electric and Chevrolet-Muncie, retiring in 1979. After retirement he volunteered for several years at Ball Memorial Hospital and later obtained a Real Estate license.

Phil lived in Parker City for several years and while there was involved in Cub Scout leadership and coaching for the Little League. He was also a Past Master and 54 year member of the Parker Lodge 630 F.& A. M.

In 1971 Phil was named to the Lions district 25-D Silver Anniversary All-Star Basketball Team. In 1989 he was inducted into the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his children, Cathey Boggs of Cincinnati, OH, Becky (husband Tom) Mench of Cincinnati, OH, Pat (wife Joyce) of Muncie; Grandchildren, Angela Hearld of Ketchum Id., Jason (wife Lisa) Hearld of Appleton, WI, Michael Mench of Cincinnati, OH, Andrea Mench of Cincinnati, OH, Adrian (husband Michael) Joseph of Muncie and Michelle Boggs of Avon, IN; Great-grandchildren, Fletcher, Campbell, Sawyer and Weston Hearld and Myka Joseph. Brother Bob (wife Helen) Boggs and sister-in-law June Boggs

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, in 2010, Jean Ann (Gowin) Boggs; Two brothers, Keith and Edwin and a sister Louise Addington.

Services will be 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie.

Family and friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at The Meeks Mortuary, Washington Street Chapel with Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. , or one hour prior to services on Friday.
