Robert “Bob” Boggs, Selma, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2016 to enter eternal life. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen (Wright), and children, William (Bill), Debi (Mark Ladendorf), Rodney (Lisa) and grandchildren, Lance (Cynthia), Luke, Hannah (fiancé Chase Harriman), Bryant, and Elizabeth (Jason Ray) and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

Bob was born in Randolph County on the Garringer Farm east of Farmland on April 15, 1926 to Hilda (Garringer) Boggs and Samuel Plummer Boggs. He was predeceased by siblings, Keith, Louise Addington, James “Eddie”, and Philip Boggs.

Bob was a member of the Garden of Gethsemane United Methodist Church in Muncie, Indiana. He touched the lives of countless students and people in his profession as a teacher and coach for 39 years before his retirement from Wapahani High School in 1989. Bob was kind and considerate, never to judge or criticize and always available to lend a helping hand.

Bob met the love of his life, Helen, in the fall of 1954 and the two were engaged on Helen’s birthday on December 17, 1954 to be made a couple forever on March 4, 1955. These two Selma “Bluebirds” were mated for life remaining devoted to each other.

Bob’s accomplishments as a man, husband, father, grandfather, athlete, soldier, educator, coach, mentor and friend to all he met are an example of what every man hopes to accomplish in his lifetime. Giving back to his community, Bob was a volunteer servant to Ball Memorial Hospital logging over 3000 hours, which included driving the transport bus for visiting patients and families. He coached baseball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, golf and cross-country over a span of 32 years, winning numerous Sectional and County titles. Bob was inducted into the Delaware County Hall of Fame in basketball in 1986.

Bob loved golfing with his buddies, playing cards and vacationing with his wife, family and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings, and spending quality time with his grandchildren, religiously attending their athletic and musical endeavors. Bob was a patriot and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Yokohama, Japan playing for the 8th Army baseball team in 1946.
