SELMA--Lloyd Keith Boggs, 82, formerly of Selma, passed away Jan. 10, 2003, at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Keith purchased his home in Scottsdale in 1997 to escape the cold Indiana winters. Due to ill health, he sold his beloved Crestwood farm and made his Arizona home his permanent address in 2000.
He was born on a farm near Farmland to Hilda Garringer Boggs and Samuel Plummer Boggs, He grew up in Randolph and Delaware counties. He graduated from Royerton High School in 1939. He played on the varsity basketball team and played the clarinet in the high school band. He greatly enjoyed the contacts he kept with his high school classmates throughout his entire life.
He married Marie Elizabeth Creviston on June 26, 1941. In January of 1943, he was in World War II serving under General George Patton in the 253rd Armored Field Artillery Battalion "C" Battery. He served until December 1945. He worked at Warner Gear for over 40 years and retired as a supervisor in 1975. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service, where he was a rural carrier.
His memberships include the Whitney Lodge 229 F&AM, the Central Indiana Old Car Club and the Moose Lodge 33 and he attended the Union Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include his special friend and companion who was by his bedside at the time of death, Sandra Myers, of Albany; his three daughters, Dr. Rachel E. Kaufman, Kalamazoo, Mich., Martha (Marty) Howell (husband: George), Arlington, Tex., and Mary Ann Lowther (husband: John), Scottsdale, Ariz.; his five grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Louise Addington (husband: Vern), Anderson; three brothers, J. Edwin Boggs (wife: June), Muncie, Robert Boggs (wife: Helen), Selma, and Philip Boggs (wife: Jean Ann), Muncie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 52 years, Marie.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in The Meeks Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Joe Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Tabor Cemetery. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, or an hour before the services on Thursday.
