I begin his story by telling you
Of his birth in Innerleithen Scotland on 25 May 1800 he was Bapt 07 June 1800 in Innerleithen, Scotland by Rev Jos.Johnston.

His father was : Dr John Eckford (born 26 August 1766 bapt Sept 1766 Innerleithen, Peeblesshire, Scotland -death AL Unknown.
His parents were: Thomas Eckford and Janet Hope .
His Mother was : Marion Pow ( born 27 April 1770 bapt 06 May 1770 Innerleithen ,Peeblesshire, Scotland death AL Unknown)

The Couple were wed by Rev Robert Scott
05 June 1795 Innerleithen ,Peeblesshire Scotland after Proclamations to the Church on :May 16th(pro),17th(primo) and (tertio)25th .She was the youngest daughter of John Pow late tenant Kirkland and her mother was Marion Bleakie.

Their Children were : Twins born: 20 March 1796 John (death 03 September 1833 Tipton,TN ) and Thomas Eckford ( Death: 1879 ) both were bapt on 23 March 1796 ,Marion Eckford (born 04 December 1798 - bapt 12 Dec 1798 Innerleithen Peebles Scotland death unknown ), James Eckford: (31 May 1800 ,bapt 07 Jun 1800 Innerleithen Peebles Scotland -death 25 Apr 1873 Macon,MS) William Eckford (born 07 Oct 1802-12 Jul 1852 Cullum Springs,AL ) and Joseph R (born 1807 - died 15 Nov 1865 Monroe Aberdeen,MS )

Dr John Eckford and his young family according to a document Alien Enemy Declaration in the War of 1812 in Madison County ,Alabama in his own handwriting : stated he was 46, a physician with a wife and four children who had been in the US ,10 years which placed them entering US Soil about 1802. The Dr and his wife died sometime in Morgan County AL before James and William came to MS ,not sure of the dates and no grave of neither has surfaced to date.

William, James and Thomas were in Morgan County AL in the 1830s,
John Eckford ,Thomas's twin brother had moved his family to Tipton County TN .He was a deputy sheriff /an officer of the court in Tipton,TN, he died 03 Sept 1833 .
His wife :Elizabeth Fisher( (born 1800 TN died 1887 TX) their Children were : Francis Marion Martha B Eckford(Cage) James Henry Eckford and John Fisher Eckford) .(His grave has not been found)

Thomas Eckford and Joseph soon joined their brother John in Tipton TN abt 1830s
Thomas Eckford married Delitha Becton ( born 1818 TN death unknown TN ) a widow former spouse Benjamin May 1810-1836) with one child Kitturah Harriet Benjamine May who Thomas was appointed guardian over but was soon removed from her guardianship in a court of law . Their Children were: John P, Frederick Thomas Boardman, Becton, William Wallace, Frances M, Mary D ,Martha and Robert M Eckford ) Thomas Eckford died abt 1879 Tipton, TN.(his grave has not been found)

Marion Eckford born 04 December 1798 Innerleithen, Peeblesshire ,Scotland bapt 12 Dec 1798 shows up in the 1840 census (only numerical )1850 census in the home of James in Noxubee, MS under the name of Mary A Eckford ,nothing afterwards.( No grave on Marion has been found)

Joseph R Eckford made his way from Tipton into MS and settled in Monroe County ,MS.
His first wife in TN : Elizabeth Woods (birth/death unknown) their Children were : Mary A, John, and Nicholas W Eckford .
His 2nd wife :Martha S Oliver ( born 02 Aug 1813 NC died 16 Feb 1876 Aberdeen ,MS) their Children were: Joseph W, Mary, James, Quincy Oliver , Julia and Charles H Eckford. (It was rumored that Joseph himself suffered from heart failure during the time of the civil war when Yankee Soldiers had set his cotton Barn on fire ) He died 15 Nov 1865 Aberdeen Monroe ,MS. His memorial Findagrave # 116209654

William Eckford was almost inseparable from his brother James , both were land speculators and in the early part of 1850's they both were in MS
forming businesses together, buying/selling lands in MS and other states.
The two are even buried close by one another in Friendship Cem Columbus MS

William Eckford's first wife was : Zuritha (born 09 Sept 1807 died 30 Jan1837 Columbus,MS) .Marriage unknown. I believe after long research her surname to be Parrish and that she was the sister of Harriet S Parish (his brother ,James'wife ) Their Children were : John Henry, William Joseph, Mary Elizabeth ,Caledonia and Zuritha Eckford.

William's 2nd Wife: Mariah B Hewitt /Collins born 1820 London England died 09 July 1902 Aberdeen MS. A widow/ former spouse Darling Collins 1802-1840 Marriage to William on 24 May 1845 Mobile AL .Children: Eliza Maria and Frank J Eckford.
William died in Cullum Springs ,Choctaw, AL on 12 July 1852.
His monolith is right beside James's
they both are resting for eternity with their first wives and William's small children in Lot 19
in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus,MS .His memorial Findagrave # 12915168

James Eckford's first wife was Harriet S Parrish(born 22 Feb 1805died 31 October1862) Marriage : 06 May 1830 Morgan ,AL.
Their children were: John Thomas Eckford,
*Mary Eliza Eckford (1835- 13 September 1837) ,Zuretha "Zura" Eckford (Barteau),
James William Eckford,
Henry P Eckford,
* Walter Scott Eckford ,
and Robert P Eckford .

* Mary Eliza Eckford born 1835 died 13 September 1837 Columbus MS
( her grave cannot be found ),
The paper clipping of her death from the Southern Angus in Columbus MS is dated 26 September 1837 pg 3 Tuesday it goes on to say:

On the 13th instant Miss Mary Eliza ,only daughter of James Eckford, Aged 2 years and 3 months.
"Happy Mary,early blest,
Rest in peaceful slumbers rest;
Early rescued from the cares,
Which increase with growing years."

* His Son : Walter Scott Eckford: 1844-1900 Montgomery AL is also not connected to memorial
He married Sallie "Sarah" J Gilmer /Bullock,
Their Children were :Gilmer P ,John Thomas, Walter M and David D .
FYI : There is a memorial on Findagrave saying that it is Walter Scott Eckford's grave but it states death at 1908 and is not marked ,so I'm not sure ? but later will add after more research convinces me it is ? the Findagrave Mem# 180391022

James Eckford remarried for the second time on 04 September 1867 in St Paul Ramsey, Minnesota to Harriette Jones Brierly ( 23 November 1838 England died 22 Dec 1913 Salem Massachusetts) , they had one daughter Lily Josephine Eckford born 28 July 1870 in Noxubee, MS .

Harriette buried her husband ,probated will in court , took monies and etc ,sold what she had been given in the will , did not even bother to place an epitath on her late husband's grave and with her little daughter in tow ,
She moved back up North to Middlesex ,Massachusetts to begin teaching again until her death. Both Lily and Harriette are also connected to his grave.
Lilly became a school teacher as well ,living in Massachusetts , She travelled the country after retiring and died 09 September1939 Salem Essex, Massachusetts unmarried.

This is my research, years of it ,like an endless story The Eckford Tree has many branches that continue to grow and spread .Please make sure if copying to include me with it as its source.
I have spent several years in an LDS Center on Scottish Parochial Records ,linking families together going up the Eckford Tree along with years upon years researching US Records and adding them to the Growing Eckford Tree

I have added this story to James's memorial because HE is my 3rd great grandfather.
In 2021 my Cousin Jim and I, in honor of our 3rd Great Grand father, reached out to Mark Cowart ,Division Mgr w Columbus Marble Works in Columbus MS
We had him do this amazing epitaph for his monolith , after 148 years , he now has his name /birth /death marking his place in the plot with Harriet .

James was the family patriarch, he was the glue that held his family together, after his death ,most of the other children scattered like leaves to different places in MS, Alabama, California and TN.
