First Born Son of James Eckford and Harriet S Parrish
He was Born 29 March 1831 ,Morgan County ,Alabama,
His Grandparents were Dr John Eckford (1766 Scotland - Alabama death in unknown )and Marion Pow (1770 -Alabama death unknown).
His siblings were Mary Eliza Eckford( (1835-1837) Zuretha "Zura" Eckford /Barteau (1839-1912) James William Eckford( (1840-1873) , Henry P Eckford (1842-1881) ,Walter Scott Eckford ( 1844-1900) only sibling I have not found to connect to the family , and Robert P Eckford (1849-1935 ) .
John moved from Alabama with his parents and siblings into Mississippi in the late 1830's .
In 1840 (Census) they were in Columbus ,Lowndes ,MS,1850 in Noxubee /Oktibbeha MS( Census ), and again in Noxubee in 1860 (Census) .
In 1861 John signed up for "The War " in Union City,TN 08 August 1861, according to his first Company muster in roll ,he was with Captain Melancton Smith/ Capt William B Turner's MS Light Artillery (They were first know as the Chickasaway Desperadoes of Clarke County,MS. April 1861)
This company fought in many battles and Campaigns
All of the brothers along with cousins were also close to this unit it's almost as if they were there to watch each other's backs throughout the long war . The Battles /Campaigns of Belmont, Shiloh, Corinth, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga ,Chattanooga , Atlanta , Nashville ,and Mobile where they surrendered (are all just to name a few).On the 31 October 1862 during this war The family lost their beloved mother Harriet S Parrish in Noxubee MS.
After the war ,all five boys came home and settled into their own lives ,marrying their loves and farming and planting the lands .
John Thomas met Maggie Margaret Caroline Hardee (dau of Thomas Jefferson Hardee / Henrietta E Burns ) and by the Winter of the 13 December 1872
the two were married and settled into a home in Clarke County MS.

Even The Eckford children's father James Eckford (widow) remarried as well after the War on the 04 of September 1867 in St Paul MN to Harriette Jones Brierly ,one half sister to John and his sibs was born from this union (Lily Josephine Eckford 28 July 1870 Noxubee MS.)

By 25 April 1873 ,Tragedy again hit the Eckford family ,with the loss of their Family Patriarch ,their Father James Eckford ( who for years had held his family together ) then soon after was accompanied by the loss of one of their brother's
James William Eckford who died from Yellow Disease (Mosquitos) 29 September 1873 in Noxubee MS .
Court cases against his widow Harriette Brierly by his Children came about from Harriette not carrying out the conditions of their father's will which drug through courts for some time .

John Thomas and Maggie farmed their lands in Clarke County MS
On 27 of November 1873, A daughter was first born to John Thomas and Maggie ,naming her Hattie Eckford ,Their son was born a few years later on 08 May 1876 Thomas Jefferson Eckford and a few yrs later one more daughter came on 25 January 1878, Nettie B Eckford
In 1880 census they were in Shubuta ,Clarke County,MS .
By 01 May 1897 ,Sadness struck the little family of five with the death of John Thomas Eckford .
After his death, Maggie and Nettie stayed in Clarke county for a little time but ended up moving to Meridian to be closer to her other two children .
Her youngest daughter Nettie died 24 October 1900at her Aunt's Home in Meridian MS
In 1910 Census Hattie (Breland)daughter was obviously divorced along with her little daughter Essie ,living in the home with Maggie her Mother.
About 1912 Maggie filed for Confederate widow's Pension

Dear Husband and Father
Not on this perishing stone,
but in the Book of Life,
and in the Hearts
of thy Afflicted loved ones
is thy worth recorded.
