Joseph David Blackstone, 75, of Sarasota, passed away on March 21, 2014. Born in Anderson Co., SC he moved to the area 30 years ago. He was a retired Master Sergeant, having served in the U.S. Army for 25 years. Later he had worked as a Hendry Co. Corrections Officer, and had also worked at the Brandywine Nursing Home, and in sales for the Sarasota Herald Tribune. He was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by his wife, Chan; two daughters, Rebecca Blackstone and Eunjoo Kim; three sons, Thomas David Blackstone, Yongmo Kim, and Kyungmo Kim; three sisters, Macie Armonaitis, Beatrice Davis and Betty Joe Blackstone; a brother, Melvin Blackstone; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five sisters, a brother, and his parents, Lawrence B. and Pearl Gilstrap Blackstone. Funeral services will be held today at 11:00 AM at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Gulf Gate Chapel. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
