Ernestine Hammond was born Edna Ernestine Freeman, the first of eleven children born to John David Freeman and Winnie (Ward) Freeman, in Amarillo Texas, October 31, 1921.

The "kids" had silly names to tease each other; their nickname for Ernestine was "Steenie." The family moved nearly every year, as their father chased plastering work, and each child was born in a different place.

On April 3, 1941, Ernestine married Coral Virgil Hammond in Yuma, Arizona. Coral was the son of James Edward Hammond and Monta Arvada (Howard). Coral served as a Pastor, and Ernestine was a Pastor's Wife. They had five children: Coral Jr., Donny, Charlotte, Patty, and Julie, and the family settled in Washington State.

When Coral retired, they spent more and more time in Modesto, California, to be near their daughter Patty and son-in-law Jim Freeman. It was there in Modesto that Ernestine became a widow when her beloved Coral went home to be with the Lord.

As the family one-by-one moved back to Washington, Ernestine also re-settled there, once more surrounded by her children. Her oldest son Coral Jr. (Corky) also preceded her in death.

On February 8th, 2014, at the age of 92, Ernestine succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's Disease, joining Coral in the presence of their Lord Jesus in Glory.
