Robert Louis Head, 82, of Owensboro, passed away on February 9, 2014, at his home. He was born in West Louisville of Western Daviess County to the late James Watt and Mary Pauline (Hayden) Head. He was a truck driver, coal miner, and bus driver. He was an active member of St. Raphael and St. Alphonsus Catholic Churches. He was humbly honored to have received one of the first Sophia Awards from the Diocese of Owensboro. He led a life of simplicity, enjoying gardening, watching basketball, especially the UK Wildcats, and telling stories to his family. He showed great pride in his grandchildren and loved that he had a large family. In an interview with one of his granddaughters he stated, "I was rich on love of family. And that was all that mattered."

Survivors include two sons, Bruce and Brian Head of Owensboro; four daughters, Debbie (David) Coomes, Bonnie (Ray) Wright, Terry (Joe) Murphy, and Jackie (Michael) Freels, all of Owensboro; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Bea West of Beech Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Geraldine (Dockemeyer) Head; and his daughter, Paula Sue Head; three brothers and two sisters.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with Reverend Ray Goetz officiating.

Burial will be at a later date at St. Raphael Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the St. Alphonsus Parish Hall Building Fund, 7950 Cummings Road, Owensboro, KY 42301. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
