Mr. Hess retired in 1955 after 25 years of employment with the Statton Furniture Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.
Surviving are wife, Margaret (Schleigh) Hess; daughter, Mrs. Margaret Rice, Hagerstown; sons, J. Stuart, M. William, Ralph E., Paul G., Hagerstown; Robert E., Jackson, Miss.; James W., Tammany Manor; sisters, Miss Gertrude Hess, Miss Emma Hess, Ms. Mary Spangler, Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Rouzer Funeral Home; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
