John Stuart Hess, 62, of 2014 Gay St., died at the Washington County Hospital Tuesday morning after an illness of two days.

He was born and reared in Hagerstown a son of Maurice and Margaret Schlich Schleigh Hess and had lived here all his life.

He was retired as a night terminal manager of the Charlton Brothers Trucking Co. He retired in 1963 after 18 years of service.

Mr. Hess was a member of Zion United Church of Christ.

Besides his wife, Bertie Whittington Hess, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Doris Kibler of Halfway; sons, Stuart E. Hess of Halfway and A-2c John L. Hess of Hahn Air Force Base, Germany; brothers, William, Ralph, Paul and James, all of Hagerstown: eight grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at Rouzer Funeral Home Saturday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Arthur L. Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
