OBITUARY :
STUART EDGAR HESS, 76, of Broadmore Assisted Living, 1175 Professional Court, died on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home.

Born April 11, 1932 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late John S. and Bertie V. Whittington Hess.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, JoAnn Hess in 1967, and his second wife, Janet Hess in 2003.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U. S. Army.

He was employed with Pangborn Corporation for over forty years, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity.

He was a member and Past-President of the Western Maryland Sportsmen's Club, a member of the Williamsport Redmen #84, the South Mountain Rod & Gun, the Goodwill Athletic Club, the American Legion, Funkstown Post 211, was manager and umpire with Halfway Little League, and manager and coach of the Pony League.

He played baseball for an independent league during the 50's, and was past-president and volunteer of the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Monninger, and husband Monty, of Falling Waters, West Virginia, Diane Whittington, and husband Bob, of Hagerstown, and Christine Hess of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sons, Jay Hess of Hagerstown, and Gregory Hess, and wife Lynne, of Falling Waters, West Virginia; one step-daughter, Jennifer Kriner of Clear Spring, Maryland; one brother, John Hess, and wife Linda, of Martinsburg, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister, Doris V. Kibler, infant brother, John S. Hess, Jr., and step-son, Jeffrey Penrose.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p. m. Friday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Timothy Leighton will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
