Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Psalms 30:5, Mr. Henry Marshall Beck, 86, of Tobaccoville, NC passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was born the fourth of nine children to Noah W. and Nancy T. Beck on September 19, 1927. He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, N.W. (2003), Jesse (2010), Clifton (2008) and Bobby (2012). Henry graduated from Clemmons High School in 1944 and was the winning pitcher of the state champion baseball team. He entered into the Merchant Marines and served in WWII crossing the oceans several times on hospital ships transporting the wounded. Shortly after discharge he went to work for Western Electric where he met his lifelong love. He retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies/AT&T. Henry participated in the incorporation of the Village of Tobaccoville and was elected as the first mayor, serving two terms from 1991-1994. He was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors, planting and growing shrubs, trees, flowers and vegetables which he shared so generously with loved ones. But most of all he loved God, country, "Nez", his girls, all his "grands" and his faithful friend Charlie. He will be sorely missed in our lives and in our hearts as a man of integrity, faith and compassion.

Surviving are his loving wife of more than 65 years, Inez M. Beck of the home; two daughters, Debbie Abbott (Vaughn) of Westerville, OH and Robin Beck of Tobaccoville; two grandchildren, Derick Elder of King and Katie E. Worsham (Andrew) of Gahanna, OH; two great-grandsons, Noah and Lucas Worsham of Gahanna, OH; two sisters, Wilma Smith of Winston-Salem and Nancy Mickey of Stanleyville; two brothers, Sammy Beck (Glenda) and Jimmy Beck (Libby) both of Clemmons.

A celebration of life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at North Point Baptist Church in Winston-Salem where he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted. The service will be led by Pastor Skip Furrow, Rev. Larry Harrison and Rev. Truitt Williams. Burial will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Tobaccoville.
