CURWENSVILLE FLIER REPORTED AMONG MISSING

The name of Staff Sgt. Thomas C. Smeal, of R.D. 1, Curwensville, was inclrded in the list of 23 Pennsylvanians missing in action released today by the War department.

Sgt. Smeal is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Smeal, of Naulton Road. The official telegram they received notified them that he had been missing in action since November 27. A subseequent letter indicated that his plane disappeared over Burma with all of its crew, and it is believed that it made a crash landing.

Sgt. Smeal was born in Curwensville Feb. 8, 1921, being 22 years old. He was an employee of the North American Refractories Co., at the time he entered the army. The War Department also made public the names of 30 Pennsylvanians wounded in action, including Pfc. Mark Eyerly, son of Mrs. Jane Eyerly, of Route 1, Philipsburg and Tech 5th Grade William J. Wymer, son of Mrs. Mary Wymer of Luthersburg.
