John was born into a farming family early established in what became Perry County. He was the second of five known children in his family. He continued throughout his life as a farmer in Carroll Township.

John Shatto, aged 76, of Shermansdale, died late yesterday. He is survived by a son, Elmer Shatto, of Shermandale, and two daughter, Mrs. Elmer Long, of Duncannon, and Mrs. Roy Steinberger, of Hershey. The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home
