Johnny Augustine, 80, Salina, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005. Mr. Augustine was born March 2, 1925, in Ellis.

He was a self-employed general contractor, retiring in 1997. He married Dolores Freitag on June 6, 1949, at St. Joseph's Church in Hays. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Knights of Columbus, Midwestern Polka Club and Sunflower Polka Club of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Regina Augustine; seven brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores, of the home; two sons, Steven of Hesston and Danny Joe of Overland Park; four daughters, Karen Allison, Marilyn Augustine and Carolyn McCready, all of Salina, and Janet Craft of Goodland; a brother, William of Ellis; three sisters, Thresia Scheck and Dorothy Weber, both of Ellis, and Betty Younger of Hays; 18 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. A vigil and rosary will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. Memorials may be made to the family. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
