Mount Calvary Cemetery

1930 E. Iron St
Salina, Saline County, Kansas, 67401 USA
Memorials 3,719 added (91% photographed)

The Cemetery was founded in 1870, 12 years after the founding of Salina, by an unnamed group of men. The Catholic Diocese was the purchaser of the land for the cemetery. In the early years, bodies were moved to the cemetery from sites around the city that were discovered during construction as the city expanded. Many of these graves have no names attached to them. Other graves were transferred from family cemeteries, country cemeteries, and numerous graves found at random on properties. Some of the graves had names and dates while others where simply laid to rest with blessings. There are two Baby section's. One older with simple flat markers and a newer one named Baby-land. In the past an individual had to be Catholic to be buried in the cemetery. However, the common view was, it was not a very christian way of doing things and was opened to everyone.
