Philip J. "Augie" Augustine, 77, 2301 Walnut, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 1995 at he Hays Medical Center, St. Anthony Campus. He was born Feb. 4, 1918 in Ellis to John and Regina (Schuster) Augustine.

He married Clara Arnhold on June 26, 1946 in Hays.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the 636th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He worked as a carpenter for Henry Schwaller & Sons for 35 years. He farmed north of Hays. He had been self-employed since 1980. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Hays VFW and Hays American Legion, and a former member of the Schoenchen Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, Sterling House, Hays; a son, Richard, Perry, Texas; five daughters, Linda Wiesner, Elaine Diehl, Gladys Glendening, Nadine Rupp, Hays, and Lynette Meagher, Solomon; four brothers, Paul and William, Ellis, Edward, Hays, and Johnny, Salina; four sisters, Mary Grecian, Theresa Scheck, Dorothy Weber, and Betty Jean Younger, Ellis; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Matthew, Clarence, and Joseph; two infant sisters; a set of twin sons, Joseph and Patrick; and a granddaughter.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Michael Scully officiating; burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by the Hays VFW and the Hays American Legion. A vigil service begins at 7:30 p.m. today at Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 22nd and Canterbury. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
