Irvan Rauen, 91, of Wanatah passed away Monday, July 22, 2013 at home with his family by his side. He was born February 7, 1922 in LaCrosse to Michael and Henrietta Rauen, attended Clinton Township Schools and graduated from Wanatah High School.
Irvan had been a mechanic at several LaPorte County garages before serving as a mechanic with R.E.M.C. for 33 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering with Meals-on-Wheels during retirement. Irvan will be fondly remembered for his love of traveling and golf, his woodworking talents, the many clocks he made for family and friends, and his passion for his grandchildren.
On July 14, 1943 he married Leona Benkie who survives along with their children: Judy (Donald) Shireman, Sharon Mattox, Linda (Steve) Mattox, and Vernon (Barbara) Rauen all of Wanatah; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Frank, Elmer, and Robert Rauen; and sisters: Helen Rauen and June Phegley.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 15496 S. 900 W., Wanatah with Rev. Joel Steven Zipay officiating. Burial to follow at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 4:00- 8:00 p.m. at Wanatah Funeral Chapel, 309 N. Main Street. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
