W. C. Brodhead Dies Suddenly
    --------------------------
Former Railroad Conductor Was Veteran Employe of Hazard Plant
    --------------------------
    William C. Broadhead, 80, former Central Railroad of New Jersey conductor, died suddenly of a cerebral hemorrhage yesterday morning at his home, 1 Leonard Street.
    A native of White Haven Mr. Brodhead was born January 16, 1859, the son of John and Catherine Swainbank Brodhead. His father was a timber contractor at White Haven for many years and in his younger days he assisted him in the business.
    Later Mr. Brodhead obtained employment with the Central Railroad of New Jersey and worked as a conductor for 25 years. During those years he lived at Mountain Top where he Was widely known.
    For 30 years Mr. Brodhead had been a resident of Wilkes-Bane and during that time was employed as a wire drawer by Hazard Manufacturing Company. He was a member of Prospect Lodge of Odd Fellows for 50 years and was a member of Central Methodist Episcopal Church.
    Mr. Brodhead was married to Mary Williams of Bellefonte, Pa., August 9, 1883 and in 1938 they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with a party in their home on Leonard Street.
    Surviving are his widow, 77, and these children, William C. Broadhead, Jr., city employe; Malcolm and Earl at home; Raymond. Harry and Asher, Kingston, and Mrs. Ethel Hopkins, Wilkes-Barre; two brothers, Walter, Ashley, and John, city; three sisters, Mrs. Stella Haines, Springbrook, and Mrs. Emma Stahl and Mrs. Mary Gilmire, both of Wilkes-Barre. He also leaves six grandchildren. Harry Broadhead, Jr., Fay and Robert Hopkins, Grace Davis Brodhead, Thelma Brodhead and Marie Brodhead.
    Funeral will be held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ethel Hopkins, 19 Miner Street. Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with interment in Hollenback Cemetery.
