Retired City Patrolman Drops Dead in Yard of His Home
    --------------------------
Seized with a heart attack Daniel J. Brodhead, 56, pensioned city patrolman, dropped dead yesterday afternoon in the rear of his home, 202 East Northampton Street, while walking from the house to the garage. His wife saw him fall and rushed to his aid but he died before a physician arrived.
Mr. Brodhead was appointed to the Wilkes-Barre police force in 1909 by the late Mayor Lewis P. Kniffen. For several years he drove the police patrol when horses were used by the department. In 1913, when the first automobile patrol was acquired by the city, Mr. Brodhead was its operator.
For a number of years Mr. Brodhead continued as patrol chauffeur and then covered practically every beat in the city as a patrolman. Several years ago the municipal wood pile was established under the South Street Bridge and Mr. Brodhead was placed in charge. Recovering from a long siege of illness he was assigned to police headquarters, where he rode the patrol with the chauffeur on day calls. After serving twenty years and nine months in the police department Mr. Brodhead was placed on pension October 4, 1929 by City Council.
Surviving are his wife, Louise; two step-children, Mrs. Harold Ward and Mrs. Grace Kinch, both of Kingston, and the following brothers and sisters: William C. Brodhead, John 0. Brodhead, Mrs. Emma Stahl and Mrs. William Gilmyer, all of Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Jobn Haynes, Moosic, and Walter L. Brodhead of Ashley.
Mr. Brodhead was a member of the Maccabees, Jr. O. U. A. M., and the Fraternal Order of Police. The funeral will be held on Monday.
