Worked for Jersey Central and Vulcan - Family Twice Bereaved In Ten Days
Walter J. Brodhead, a former employe of the Central Railroad of New Jersey and of the Vulcan Iron Works, died this morning at the home of his son, James Brodhead, 789 Hazle street, Ashley.
His passing today was the second death in the Brodhead family in the past 10 days. A brother, William C. Brodhead, Sr., died on April 13 at his home, 1 Leonard street, city, and was buried last Saturday.
The death of Walter Brodhead today was attributed to complications. He had been failing for several months and his condition was so grave that death had been expected for the past few weeks, members of the family said.
William Brodhead died a week ago Thursday, a few hours before he was to have been taken to Ashley to see his brother, Walter. He was seized with a cerebral hemorrhage and died instantly.
In Ashley 45 Years
Walter Brodhead, a resident of Ashley for the past 45 years, was the son of John and Catherine Swainbank Brodhead. His father was a lumber contractor in White Haven for many years.
Mr. Brodhead was employed as a tank foreman at the Ashley Shops of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. He later worked in the Vulcan Iron Works. He was a member of the Ashley M. E. Church.
Funeral services will be held at his son's home, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock by the Rev. Robert Coward. Interment will be in Hollenback Cemetery.
Other survivors are a brother, John, of Wilkes-Barre, and three sisters: Mrs. Stella Haines, Moosic; Mrs. Mary Gilmire, and Mrs. Emma Stahl, both of Wilkes-Barre.
