Broadhead Passes Away
The death of William Brodhead, 55, who resides at 1 Leonard street, city, occurred at the Contagious Hospital last night at 9 o'clock. He was a patient at the institution since Wednesday, two days after he is alleged to have been taken ill. He was in a semi-conscious condition during the malady and as the end neared yesterday his brother, Malcolm Brodhead, submitted to a blood transfusion in an effort to give sufficient strength to the patient to prolong his fight against the disease. The city police force also was hand to give blood if necessary.
Discovery of Brodhead's plight last Wednesday prompted health authorities to take cultures of most of the city's police force and all members of the No. 2 fire company. Attaches of city hall also submitted to cultures.
Of the scores of cultures taken in the Brodhead contacts, only one person was found to be a "carrier" of the disease, Mr. Pugh said. He was Cecil Slivinski, a fireman at No. 2 company, who also operated the ambulance.
Mr. Brodhead's death was the third in that family in the past three Brodhead, 80, dropped dead of a cerebral hemmorhage on April 13. A week later his father's brother died months. His father, William C. in this city.
Mr. Broadhead was active in Republican politics in the 12th Ward, where he was committeeman. He was a member of Columbia Council, Jr. O.U.A.M., and the Police Pension Fund. He attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Private funeral services will be conducted from his home, 1 Leonard street, tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in Mount Greenwood Cemetery.
