He was born March 12, 1896, in Wayne to John R. and Alice (Duessler) Bateson. He married Georgia Cline on Sept 5, 1917, in Bowling Green and she survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Shirley Stenzel, Risingsun; four sons, Harry Jr., Findlay, Richard, Fostoria, Jack, Bloomdale, John, Wayne; 24 grandchildren; 67 great grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, John, Gibsonburg; and two sisters, Pearl Yoder and Ethel Wollam, both of Bowling Green.
Mrs. Bateson had retired in 1962 as a mill operator at Union Carbide Corp., Fostoria, where he had worked for 36 years. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Risingsun.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, the Rev. Mack Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloomdale.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
