OBITUARY

ED LORIS WALKER
14 Sep 1933 -- 28 May 2013

Ed Loris Walker was the 10th child born to Ed Lee Walker and Wiley Louise "Louie" White Walker at the "Old Granddaddy Walker" home on Tahuaya Road in Bell Co., TX. Ed passed away in the Veteran's Hospital Hospice Care Unit Temple, TX into the arms of his Savior, Jesus, on 28 May 2013 after a 7 year battle with prostrate cancer.

Ed grew up in the Bell County area where his grandparents, William Winston Walker, Sarah Adams Kirkpatrick Walker, George Prentice "Ponto" White and Mary Ann Cearley White settled in the 1860's. Ed attended Bell County public schools and accepted Jesus as his savior at an early age. He learned the farming and ranching trades under his father's guidance.

On September 21, 1950, seven days after his 17th birthday, Ed joined the US Army. He served in Korea celebrating his 18th birthday as he would tell us "in a foxhole dodging enemy fire". Ed returned to the US in July 1952, but soon after volunteered to return to Korea, however he was re-assigned to Hokkaido, Japan for the remainder of his tour. He was honorably discharged January 1954 in San Antonio, TX.

After spending a few months in Houston, Ed moved to Corpus Christi, TX where he learned the plumbing trade with his brother, Tommy. In his spare time on the weekends Ed rode bulls in the area Rodeos, winning several events and earning a sliver belt buckle.

In 1956 Ed returned to Houston and entered into a partnership with his brother, Bill Walker, in the used car business, a partnership that would last 13 years. In 1969 Ed accepted a position with Clarady Industries of Houston becoming lead manager in a very short time. He did not like being inside and returned to plumbing working for Leslie Plumbing doing repair work, then John Moore Plumbing and eventually Frank's Plumbing where he ran the repair department until he went into business for himself in 1977. In 1981 Ed moved his family to Leander TX where he did the plumbing on many custom homes in Lake Way, Lago Vista, Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville and Cedar Park. He did commercial plumbing for Chasco Constructors in Round Rock, plumbing the Cedar Park Library,Pizza Hut, Austin Metro Park & Ride in Cedar Park, and the Toyota Dealership in Round Rock.

In 1995 Ed retired and moved to Cuero to be near his favorite salt water fishing places. In 1998 Ed once again returned to plumbing due to the Flood that destroyed so many homes and businesses in and around Cuero, retiring again in 2002 and moved to the Forest Oaks subdivision in Altair, Texas, where once again Ed built the family home --his fourth one -- doing much of the work himself.

In early 1957 Ed's sister-in-law, Lucia "Lucie" Walker, arranged a blind date for him with one of her co-workers, Betty Lang. Ed and Betty were married 2 months and 4 days later and celebrated 56 years of marriage on May 4, 2013.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents Ed Lee and Wiley Louise White Walker and step mother, Lemmie Ida Grimm Hess Walker; 4 brothers A. W. Walker, Willie Dee "Bill" Walker, Houston Thomas "Tommy" Walker and Fred Hess; 2 brothers-in-law, Kenneth Wolff and Arnold Raabe ; 4 sisters Katie Walker Hess Raabe, Hettie Lou Walker Raabe, Evelyn Walker Cohen, and Ann Walker Estridge.
