Sioux Center, IA - George Olson, 91, of Hull, IA formerly of Sioux Center died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Pleasant Acres Care Center, Hull.
Funeral service will be 1 pm, Friday at Demco Community Center, Boyden, IA. Burial at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation with family 6-8 pm Thursday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.
George Melvin Olson was born June 16, 1918 in Corsica, SD, son of Con and Ida (Nelson) Olson. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in the South Pacific and Orient 1942-45 as a medical technician.
George was united in marriage to Jessie Vogelzang on December 24, 1942 in Denver, CO. Together they farmed near Fairview, SD, Doon, IA and then near Orange City, IA, until retirement in 1998 when they moved to Sioux Center, IA.
They moved to Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull, IA in 2008. George loved reading his Bible, Bible Studies, fellowship with friends and family and farming.
George is survived by his wife, Jessie; children: Janice (Eugene) Meyer of Evansville, IN, Loren (Margriet) Olson of Sioux Center, IA , LuAnn (Rod) Dykstra of Sheldon, IA, Arlene (Martin) Ketelsen of Union Center, SD, Norma (Cal) Birkhofer of Sidney, NE; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brothers: Con Olson of Mt. Carmel, IN, Verdus (Wanda) Olson of Indianapolis, IN; sisters: Dena Christensen of Waynesboro, VA, Gretha Groseth of Indianapolis, IN, Eleanor (Joe) Rodgers of Greenfield, IN, Ina (Robert) Browning of Evansville, IN, Virginia (Ralph) Myers of Alburn, IN; sisters-in-law: Chong Cha Olson of Indianapolis, IN and Genevieve Olson of Greenfield, IN.
George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Kermit, Ervin, Alvin Olson; sisters: Clara Ellingson, Millie Theodorson and Esther Olson.
