Jessie Olson, 95, formerly of Sioux Center, IA, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Pleasant Acres Care Center at Hull.
Jessie was born October 4, 1917 near Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of Simon and Jacoba (Dykstra) Vogelzang. She married George Olson on December 24, 1942 at Denver, Colorado. Together they farmed near Fairview, SD, Doon, IA and near Orange City, IA, until retirement in 1998 when they moved to Sioux Center. Jessie and George moved to Pleasant Acres at Hull, IA in 2008. George died on February 28, 2010. Jessie made her choice to serve God at age 14 when the Gospel came to her. She and George faithfully kept an open home to family, friends, and fellowship worship for over 35 years. She was a devoted loving wife and mother who enjoyed playing piano, gardening, canning, and baking bread.
Surviving relatives include her children, Janice (Eugene) Meyer of Evansville, IN, Loren (Margriet) Olson of Sioux Center, IA, LuAnn (Rod) Dykstra of Sheldon, IA, Arlene (Martin) Ketelsen of Union Center, SD, Norma (Cal) Birkhofer of Sidney, NE; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Wallace of Rock Valley; sister-in-laws, Mina Vogelzang of Rock Valley, and Jeanetta Vogelzang of Champaign, IL; and a special niece raised in the Vogelzang home, Christine Nelson.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, George; 5 infant siblings; sisters, Gertie Rozeboom, Reka Faber, Tena Middle; and brothers, Fred, Sam, Theodore Vogelzang.
