John Brenning Born: November 20, 1869 Died: May 30, 1934
John Brenning, was born at Kutter, Russia on the 20th of Nov. 1869, the son of John Brenning and Katherine Kilthau and spent the years of his youth at Balzer where he worked in the blacksmithy of Henry Wilhelm Bauer. In the year 1890 he married Anna Maria Bauer of Balzer to which union 9 daughters were born. One daughter died at the age of 16 years and another, Mrs. Maria Eckhardt, died later.
Mr. Brenning died of cancer of the stomach in 1934 at the age of 65 years, 6 months and 10 days. The funeral was held at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Grand Island.
Mr. Brenning had worked for 20 years as a machinist for the Burlington R.R. at McCook. In 1912 he moved to Grand Island where he accepted employment with the Union Pacific R.R. He was one of the most skilled machinists in their employ. He was a member of Pilgrim Congregational Church and always had an open hand for anyone in need. He was held in high respect by all who knew him, never becoming impatient with those with whom he worked. He lived according to the words found recorded in Matthew 25:21.
He is survived by his wife; 7 daughters, Mrs. A.E. Newkirk, McCook, Nebr., Mrs. Earl F. McKenzie, Harvard, Nebr., Mrs. Roy Turnbull, Lincoln, Nebr., Mrs. Verdon Gilliam of Lincoln, Mrs. Leonard Heist, Lincoln, Mrs. Frank Olsen Jr., of Grand Island, Mrs. W.B. McDonel of Caldwell, Ida.; one sister, Mrs. George Bauer of Culbertson; 3 brothers - Conrad of Cheyenne, Wyo., Henry and Jacob of McCook, Nebr.
