Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Beckman funeral home for Mrs. Gilpin Wilkinson, who died at her home, 820 East Burlington street, Tuesday at the age of 75 years. The services were conducted by Rev. Guy Findly of the Christian church, six of her grandsons acting as pallbearers. Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.
James and Almira Jennings, the parents of Mrs. Wilkinson, drove to Iowa from Indiana in a covered wagon in 1852 and settled on a farm in Rochester township in Cedar county, where she was born on April 11, 1853, and grew to womanhood. At 14 years of age she was baptized in the Cedar river by Elder John C. Hay and became a member of the Christian church, of which her father was one of the pioneer preachers.
On August 28th, 1872, she was united in marriage with Gilpin Wilkinson. Most of her life was spent in Cedar county, she and her husband moving to a farm just south of Iowa City, now occupied by C. T. Kirk, 23 years ago. Five years later they moved to Iowa City.
Surviving are her husband, six children, Mrs. L. J. Kiser of Wilton Junction; Dr. L. J. Wilkinson of Laurel; Dr. G. R. Wilkinson of Anamosa; Mrs. H. F. Duncan of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. I. N. Kiser and Mrs. W. R. West of Iowa City. There are also 16 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. E. A. Carney of Atalissa, Mrs. George B. Adams of Moscow, Mrs. Charles Piper of West Liberty and Mrs. Vernon C. Walton of Wilton Junction; and two brothers, J. F. Jennings of West Liberty and Arthur E. Jennings of Tipton.
