A. E. Jennings, 80, Summoned Saturday

Mr. Arthur Eugene Jennings, pioneer resident of Tipton and Cedar county, died at Mercy hospital in Iowa City at 8:45 p.m. Saturday evening, July 19th, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 10 days. His death followed two major surgical operations at the hospital. Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, July 22, 1952, at 2 o'clock at the Petersen funeral home in Tipton, and interment was made in the Tipton Masonic cemetery near Tipton, the Rev. A. G. Long of the First Methodist church of Tipton officiating.

Mr. Jennings was born in Cedar county, Iowa, March 9, 1872, the son of James and Almira Barnard Jennings. He attended Wilton academy in his youth after which he farmed near Tipton for many years.

November 27, 1901, he was married to Bertha Mae Dodson of Cedar county, and to this union were born three sons, J. Mearl, Forest and Herbert, and a daughter Mable Marie who preceded him in death at the age of five months. He is the last of ten children born to his immediate family.

Mr. Jennings was an industrious man, a kind and loving father and husband, and was held in high esteem by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Tipton until the local lodge was disbanded a few years ago.

He is survived by his wife Bertha Mae, three sons Mearl, Forest and Herbert, all of Tipton, as well as 12 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
