Born on July 14, 1861/1864 in Ashe County, North Carolina he was the son of William Thomas Beamon and Caroline Thompson. His paternal grandparents were Joshua and Lydia Beamon of Surry County, North Carolina. Riley was orphaned at a young age, probably before 1870, and him and his sister, Jane, were sent apart to live with various relatives and friends. Cerca 1880 his caretaker, Elizabeth Blevins, passed away and he had no more immediate family. His sister had been living distantly - and was already married. Riley moved, found work, and found his love. On August 19, 1884, he married Laura Jane Dowell. Together they had nine children, seven of who survived to adulthood. Beamon died in November 1904. It was the beginning of a cold winter and he was away in West Virginia working for the Ritter Lumber Company to send money back to his family. Come lunch-time he sat down next to the train, and unknowing to him the rope that tightened the logs together snapped and he was crushed to death beneath their weight. His wife just had their last child, Lee Everett.
