Cora Barrett was born May 15, 1877 in Fulton County, IL. She was graduated from Industry, IL. High school in the first graduating class, 1895.

Jan. 9, 1898 she was married to Silas Edgar Butterfield in Industry, IL.

To this union were born three children, Warren Edward who died in military service Jan. 2, 1918; Zola, now Mrs. Robert Graber of Freeman, SD, and Gertrude Irene, now Mrs. Verne Wheeler of Sioux Falls.

The family move to South Dakota in February of 1911 and farmed northeast of Parker. In 1919 they moved into the town of Parker.

Mrs. Butterfield taught the sixth grade of the Parker schools for several years. Also teaching in rural school in Minnehaha, Turner and Lyman counties. She served one two-year term as assistant county superintendent of Turner County.

In 1933, Mr. and Mrs. Butterfield moved to near Rogers, Arkansas, where they resided until October of 1944, at which time they returned to South Dakota and made their home in Sioux Falls.

Mr. Butterfield died Nov. 7, 1951. In August of 1957 Mrs. Butterfield went to Freeman to live with her daughter, Mrs. R. Graber. In May of 1959 she came to Sioux Falls, making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wheeler, until the time of her illness and death.

October 23, 1959 she suffered a stroke and entered Sioux Valley hospital the evening of October 25th. She died at 8:35 am, Saturday, Nov. 21, 1959.

One sister preceded her in death.

Surviving are the two daughters, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, seven brothers, and three sisters.
