Charles was 11 years old when the family moved back to Illinois, where his parents purchased a 90 acre farm on Center Ridge, located North and East of Brooklyn.

Charles married Miss Amy Elvira Horton on May 30, 1903 in Littleton, Schuyler County, Illinois.
