George Poffenberger married Effie Blessing 17 April 1889 in Carroll County, Illinois

In the 1900 census, George was a saloonkeeper in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
In the 1910 census, George was a saloonkeeper in Maquoketa, Iowa.
In the 1920 census, even though George was still alive, he is unable to be found. One possible explanation as this compiler was told by his father - George's grandson, "he would go down to Arkansas in the winter to run race horses."
In the 1930 census, George was a restaurant proprietor in Savanna, Illinois.
In the 1940 census, George is living with wife and son Earl, on Main Street in Savanna, with two "borders" living with them.
