SHREVEPORT – Services for Dr. Walter Leabo, 97, of Shreveport, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday January 4 at the Osborn Funeral Home Chapel. Father Angelo Messina, pastor of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, where Dr. Leabo was a member, will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the residence of Mrs. M. J. Mathias.

Dr. Lebo died Wednesday January 2, 1985, at Midway Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was a native of Lathrop, Mo. and had been a resident of Shreveport for 84 years. He was a member of the Shreveport Country Club, the American Legion, the 40 & 8 Club, the American Dental Association, the Louisiana Dental Association, a past president of the 4th District Dental Society, a charter member of the Southwest Society of Periodontology, a Fellow in the American Academy of Periodontology and a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry.

Dr. Leabo was a graduate of Shreveport Central High School (now Byrd High School) in 1906, where he played on the school's first football team. He graduated from the Kansas City Dental College at the University of Missouri in 1909 and served with the U.S. Army Dental Corps in France during World War I. For many years Dr. Leabo was on the Board of Directors of the Shreveport Charity Hospital and the Louisiana Board of Institutions and was visiting faculty of Loyola University Dental School. He was renown in the field of Periodentistry and gave lectures at dental schools and conventions throughout the country. Dr. Leabo was also an honorary member of several dental associations in several states.

Dr. Leabo was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Anne Corry Leabo, a son, Walter C. Leabo, a daughter, Kathleen Leabo Goetzke, and a grandson, Oscar David Leabo.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Leabo Spinks and Carroll Leabo, of Lafayette, La.; one son, Dykes Leabo of Fort Worth, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Lee N. Spinks III, Jeff Spinks, Walter Spinks, Jim Leabo, Walter I. Leabo, John Leabo and Lt. Kenneth Goetzke.
