Council Grove -- Alois J. Schmidt, 73, a former Ellis County resident, died Thursday, June 21 in the Morris County Hospital.

He was born Sept. 10, 1905 in Catherine, the son of Jacob A. & Elizabeth (Staab) Schmidt.

Memberships: St. Rose Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus.

Survivors: His wife, Peggy, of the home; one daughter, Barbara Schmidt, Houston; two brothers, James F., Solomon, and Harold D., Topeka; seven sisters, Mrs. Tina Mathes, Catherine, Mrs. Helen Brodecker and Mrs. Ernestine Anderson, both of Topeka, Mrs. Freda Boies, Chulla Vista, Nev., and Lydia Brull and Anita Stang, both of Hays.

Services 9 a.m. Saturday, st. Catherine Catholic Church, Catherine, church cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. at Brock's North Hill Chapel; wake at 8 p.m.
