Leopoltina "Tina" Mathes, 89, Topeka, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1996 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.

She was born Dec. 15, 1906, at Catherine, the daughter of Jacob A. and Elizabeth Staab Schmidt.

Mrs. Mathes was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church at Catherine. She attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at Topeka.

She married John T. Mathes in 1938 at Topeka. He died in 1971.

Survivors include two brothers, Harold P. Schmidt of Topeka, James F. Schmidt of Harlingen, Texas; six sisters, Helen A. Brodecker and Ernestine Anderson, both of Topeka, Freda Boies of Denver, Anita Stang and Lydia Brull, both of Hays, and Dora Robertson of Las Vegas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. [Service detail omitted]. Burial will be at St. Catherine Cemetery at Catherine.

Memorials have been established with St. Catherine's Catholic Church and St. Catherine's Cemetery Association in care of the funeral home.
