"Struck by a Windlass. Yesterday morning about 7 o'clock, Joseph A. Freese, while at work drilling a well on the farm of Elza Breeding, Sr., in the northern part of this county, met with a serious accident. In turning the windlass that raises the drill from the well, it slipped, and the weight of the drill attached to the chain made the crank revolve with lightning rapidity. The crank struck Mr. Freese in a fearful blow on the nose, cutting it through to the bone and mashing it severely. A messenger was dispatched to Edinburg for medical aid and Dr. Lanam went down and dressed the wound, six stitches being necessary. Mr. Freese lives in Edinburg."
