Elmer Lewis Freese was born November 27, 1871, in Edinburgh, Johnson County, Indiana, son of Joseph Alexander and Ella Susan Johnson Freese, both natives of Ohio. His grandparents were John and Nancy Jane McFarland Freese, born in Maryland and Pennsylvania, respectively. On February 19, 1905, in Johnson County, Indiana, he married Stella Mae Miller, daughter of Jacob and Mary Jane Nickey Miller. They were the parents of 7 children: Elizabeth Agnes, Irene Mae, Josephine S., Louis Charles, Rosemary, Hilda E. and Thomas Ivan Freese. Elmer passed away January 9, 1957, in Edinburgh, and was buried in Rest Haven Cemetery there.
