Ruey Ann Freese was born September 2, 1851, in Washington Township, Coshocton County, Ohio, daughter of John and Nancy Jane McFarland Freese, natives of Maryland and Pennsylvania, respectively. Her paternal grandparents were John and Anna Maria Schrupp Freese, who left Frederick County, Maryland, and settled in Coshocton County, Ohio, in the 1820's. On September 2, 1875, in Brown County, Indiana, Ruey married William Tipton, son of William John and Mary Jane Randall Tipton. They were the parents of 5 children: Laura Alice, Joseph Nelson, Nancy Elinor, Eva Iona and Ida Mae Tipton. Ruey passed away February 9, 1920, in Clay City, Clay County, Illinois, and was buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery there.
