Ella worked at Granite City Depot (Illinois) as a clerk typist after she graduated from McCray-Dewey High School in 1944. Ella was in the US Navy from 1944-45. She studied nursing and received her LPN license in 1948. She worked at Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick, MA, for several years.
In 1975, she and her husband moved to Ocala, Florida, where they had a horse farm.
