She was given the name Osa Loretta Thompson and was called Osie by her family. However she preferred Loretta over Osa and reversed her name order (not legally). She had dark red hair until it grayed. She was called "Mom" by the family and was renowned for her baking skills especially pies. Her popcorns balls and floating island desserts were family favorites.
